Two balconies in Gordon’s Bay was effectively waterproofed utilizing dura proof dekflex.
The Just Letting building in Gordons Bay has balconies, with a total floor area of 40m2, which were waterproofed with a self-adhesive membrane and copper flashings. The necessary falls on the balcony screeds were insufficient, causing rainwater to gather on the balconies. As a result of extensive renovations on the building, the balconies were badly scuffed, cracked, and generally in a poor state.
The owner with a limited waterproofing budget approached a.b.e.® for their most cost-effective solution. The balconies form part of the building’s emergency exit, most importantly, the chosen waterproofing system had to be trafficable after completion.
Firstly, an a.b.e.® approved applicator, Top Deck Waterproofing removed the current screeds and restored the balconies with a.b.e.®’s dura.latex as part of the repair mortar. dura.latex is a synthetic resin polymer designed to improve the qualities of cementitious mortars and slurries.
After the rendering cured, the first coat of a.b.e.®’s dura. proof dekflex needs to be roller-applied in meter wide sections to the wetted substrate, including the dekflex reinforcing membrane cut to size with an upturn along the perimeters. After some drying time cover with a second application of dekflex to encapsulate the membrane. Once the second layer reaches full cure, a final coat of dekflex is required.
dura. proof dekflex is a two-part, cementitious waterproofing system that is highly flexible with outstanding adhesion strength. dura. proof dekflex is ideal for waterproofing balconies, terraces, flat concrete roofs, parapets, and concrete gutters.
