Surface areas should be dry, clean and sound, free of voids, sharp protrusions or contaminants. The surfaces shall have a light steel trowelled or fine wood float finish.

1. New Areas
Prime all surfaces with, including all verges, and around outlets and protrusions and allow the solvent to flash off. Extremely porous surfaces should be re-primed.

2. Rejuvenation
Strip existing waterproofing before priming all surfaces with, including all verges, around outlets and protrusions and allow the solvent to flash off. Some existing waterproofing materials may be overlaid only in consultation with the a.b.e.® Technical Representative concerned.

  • abedex® AT 4 mm
  • abedex® HM unigum 4 mm
  • Dowsil 888
  • dura.cord

Apply abedex® unigum 4 mm membrane, ensuring the layer is fully bonded by means of torch on fusion. Take the waterproofing membrane to either side of the expansion joint.

Clean interface of joint to remove all loose debris. Insert closed cell polyethylene dura.cord into joint ensuring it is recessed 12 mm deep.

Apply Dowsil 888 to joint recess ensuring good contact between sealant and joint interface. Tool sealant to leave smooth finish.

Apply one layer abedex® HM 4 mm, 200 mm wide girths with two wings of equal width sealed over the expansion joint (approx. 100 mm on either side) leaving the centre loose laid, which will be covered later by abedex® AT 4 mm waterproofing membrane.

The rolls are to run parallel to each other, centrally staggered to prevent joints overlapping.
